Sorry for Party Rocking ;)

What up everyone!

This week was super busy and a lot of fun! Wednesday I was on divisions with a guy from Utah and it was so much fun to talk with him. Then Thursday I went to Lima to finish my documents. I'm now legal in Peru!!

That trip was a lot of fun. It consisted of a 9 hour bus ride where we went from 11,000 ft. and dry air, to sea level and really humid. Other than it being super hot Lima was so fun. It felt like I was actually back in the real world. That night we walked to a McDonalds which had never tasted so good in my life. A double big mac always makes you feel good ;) Then that night we stayed in a hotel. I had never felt so clean in my life!! At the hotel I got to shower without sandals which felt good, I saw carpet for the first time since July, and the bed was super nice! Then in the morning we went and finished our papers, and then for lunch we found another McDonalds! Around 1:30 we left for Huancayo and arrived around 11. In my hotel room, there were 3 gringos, so we stayed up for a while talking, so I haven't gotten a lot of sleep lately but it was so worth it!

So Friday I left the world again and Saturday everything was back to normal! Saturday we ate lunch with the old lady that got baptized a couple weeks ago, and I got welcomed back to Huancayo by eating Cui (Guinea Pig) for lunch. It was my first time and I was super nervous to eat it. But thankfully they fried it really good and put a spicy sauce on it. So yeah, I actually liked eating Guinea Pig! It's like chicken but with a million bones in it.

Then Saturday afternoon we had a baptism which went really well and then had a ward Christmas activity for the rest of the night. So this week was filled with a lot of partying!

Anyway I was going to leave you with a Christmas message, but I feel like I need to talk about the Book of Mormon, and you guys have probably heard a billion Christmas messages by now. Anyway, please, please, please read the Book of Mormon every day. The world is crazy and it's getting harder and harder every single day. The more the church grows, the more strength the adversary uses. The only way to get through it all is to read your scriptures every day. If you aren't reading, you will be more likely to forget who you are and do bad things. But if you read everyday, the spirit will be with you and I promise you will be able to sail the stormy seas. It doesn't matter who you are, if you aren't reading your scriptures things can happen. The Titanic was supposed to be unsinkable. But it didn't read its scriptures ;) and it got wrecked. Anyway have a nice Christmas. I love y'all!!!!

Light

Hey everyone!

How was your week? After a few days of Ritz crackers and hot herbal drinks, I'm feeling a lot better! Also having people pray for me from 3 different countries (USA, Peru & Chile) helped a lot. Haha Wednesday morning I woke up feeling super good and just thought about the line from Tangled, "And at last I see the light." So yeah, I'm feeling a lot better.

Do you remember the old lady I baptized last week? Like how she was a little mentally unstable? Well after her baptism she miraculously has become super relaxed and chill. Her daughter who we are teaching was the first to tell us this. Now her daughter really wants to be baptized, which is cool that she has seen the difference baptism can make. So just remember baptism really does change people.

One super funny thing that happened this week is that we are teaching this lady a member referred us to. I was telling her about the Book of Mormon and testifying of it, and then I gave her a copy and challenged her to read it. She then responded thank you, but I don't know how to read. It turns out she grew up in a tiny village out in the mountains in the middle of no where and never was taught how to read. So that was a bit awkward. Luckily she has a daughter who can read. So hopefully we can teach her daughter and have them read together. Fingers crossed.

Anyway we´re supposed to be in rainy season right now, but it seems that I brought some of Logan's droughts with me here. The past few weeks it's been super sunny and at 11,000 feet elevation the sun is pretty strong. But what's funny is that I rarely get sunburned and my companion burns really bad. People always ask us why my companion is sunburned but the gringo isn't haha. We got tired of the sun this week and bought sombreros. My pension and her husband went with us to the market and they talked me into getting a sombrero with a brim that is basically the shape of a cowboy hat. Haha I guess Xavier did rub some influence off on me. What's funny is that when I began wearing it, people started saying I was Chuck Norris.

Since it's Christmas time I'll leave you with a short spiritual thought. If you read in 3rd Nephi, the Americas are given signs of Christs birth and his death. When Christ is born there is a day, a night, and a day as if it was one day. The sun set but it never got dark. Then with his death, there was 3 days of darkness and people couldn't light fires or do anything to have light. So it is fun to think that Christ literally brought light into the world the night he was born and then when he died light was taken out. The church for Christmas has a program called Light the World. When we do acts of Christlike service and love, we can help bring some of His light back into the world. So I would just challenge all of you to find ways to serve and show others love every day.

Now for the dog count, sorry I have forgotten to give it the past few weeks so I will just give a total. This week was interesting with dogs. This family has two sandlot type dogs and the other day one got out and wanted to eat me for dinner. But don't worry I'm fine I just have ptsd haha. Also I saw my first dog with rabies which was sketchy because we were talking in the street and the dog walked right up to us. Luckily he didn't bite, but he was foaming which definitely spooked me. Now here is the total: 5,090 🐶

Love y'all!

Tis the Season!

What up everyone!?

Normally I write my weekly email ahead of time on Sunday night, but last night was a bit of a struggle, so I'm winging this one ;) Also I'm sorry that I didn't send an email last week, we were crazy busy.

So last week our entire zone had an activity at this school that's only for special needs kids. We did service in their gardens and then sang to the kids and hung out with them. It was probably one of the most fun things that I've done so far! They loved our songs and some elders dressed up as Santa Claus and his elves. Their smiles were so amazing and just melted my heart.

Then this Monday and Tuesday we had a multi-zone p-day and then conference. So all of the elders in Huancayo, 70ish of us, were gathered together and we hung out. We had a Christmas conference with our president. We exchanged white elephant gifts, had turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy. This is the first time I've had gravy since leaving the states. We then got surprised when all of the families of the missionaries sent videos wishing them Merry Christmas! It was such a surprise and super cool to see my family.

This week was full of miracles. One girl that we've been trying to commit to baptism did this week! We've tried so much in the past but her parents want her to take things slowly and also she didn't have a testimony in a living prophet. Then one day we showed up and she said that she knew everything was true and her parents will let her be baptized!

Also a bunch of other people randomly changed and told us they want to be baptized too. So prayer is real and hearts can be changed!

Speaking of baptisms, on Saturday we had a baptism and I baptized the lady! It was super touching but also a struggle haha. The lady is 65 and the water was super cold. It only took a mere 6 tried to baptize her ;) On the 6th try we sat down in the water together and then I hurried and pushed her under. We also think this lady is a little mentally unstable haha. She told us she went out preaching the word of god to people in a busy market. I'm afraid she preached straight apostasy haha. But the funny part is that when she was preaching for "the lost sheep to repent" she said the people started throwing water on her to get her to go away. So if you want a funny thought, picture this 65 year old lady trying to preach and getting water thrown on her.

Then Sunday afternoon we had lunch with some members. Like I've said before you can't trust them because they give you things in bowls haha..... but after lunch I got super sick. So right now I'm on a straight liquid diet which sucks, but it will also be good to have a break from white rice and chicken haha. Anyways that's it for me! Sorry it was short but I hope you all have a good week!
